CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – Michael Blackwell is no stranger to coaching state champion girls’ softball teams. Blackwell has won the state title in 2008, 2010, 2012, and now his 2017 Clarksville National Girls’ 12U all-star team, The Red Hotz, have once again done the same. On Monday in Greeneville, TN, Clarksville National beat Morristown 10-0 to capture the state title. Blackwell knows it takes more than hitting, throwing, and catching to get to where the Red Hotz are. “The 2017 CN all-star team is made up of kids with incredible work ethics and parents. Clarksville National Softball is built on tradition and centered around God and family values. These young ladies compete without the fear of failure and play the game with attitude and effort,” Blackwell said. “Their work effort and willingness to sacrifice for each other is what makes them special. Each of them reflect the values of our league, their parents, and our community.” The team outscored opponents 72-4 throughout the district and state tournament. “I realized after our first team meeting that the players and their parents were focused and committed to making a run at the Little League World Series. Our team captains, Emberly Nichols, Abby Chappell, and Mackela Stuard represent the sacrifices the girls make to fulfill this type commitment and lead this team by example. We are 13 players strong and each player understands their role to make this team the best it can be,” Blackwell said. “I have a great team of coaches and parents to support these girls and that also mirror the Clarksville National softball league’s commitment to excellence. We set four goals for this team- District Champs, State Champs, South East Region Champs, and LL World Series Champs. Two of these goals have been reached in dominating fashion and we are headed to Warner Robbins, Georgia for step three. Somebody is going to win it and I like our chances. We play Virginia at 11:00 next Thursday to get things started.” The Red Hotz travel to Warner Robbins, Georgia next week to compete in the South East Regional tournament.
